Bridging Generations of Leaders

Inside the Families Without Borders Alumni-Led Retreat 2026

For three days, students from Central University, Njala University, and the University of Makeni (UNIMAK) stepped away from their classrooms and into an environment designed to inspire growth, leadership, and meaningful connections. The Families Without Borders Alumni-Led Retreat 2026, held from May 29 to 31, brought together students and alumni of the organization in a unique gathering centered on mentorship, learning, and community building. More than just a retreat,

the event served as a platform where current students could learn directly from alumni who once stood in their shoes and have since progressed in their academic and professional journeys.

Throughout the retreat, participants engaged in interactive discussions, leadership sessions, team-building activities, and networking opportunities. Alumni shared practical experiences about overcoming challenges, pursuing opportunities, and

making a positive impact within their communities. Their stories offered students a glimpse into what is possible through dedication, resilience, and a commitment to personal growth.

A particularly meaningful aspect of the retreat was the opportunity for final-year and qualifying-year students to share their own experiences with younger participants. These conversations encouraged reflection, inspired confidence, and strengthened the culture of peer learning that Families Without Borders continues to promote.

The retreat also created space for students to discuss issues affecting their communities and explore ways they can contribute to positive change. Through collaborative discussions, participants generated ideas for future community service initiatives, demonstrating a shared commitment to leadership through action.

Beyond the formal sessions, the retreat fostered a strong sense of belonging. Students from different universities built new friendships, strengthened existing relationships, and developed networks that will continue long after graduation. The

atmosphere of openness and mutual support reflected the core values that have defined Families Without Borders over the years.

As the retreat concluded, one thing became clear: the power of alumni engagement extends far beyond financial support or professional advice. By investing their time, experiences, and mentorship, alumni are helping to shape the next generation of leaders.

The success of the Families Without Borders Alumni-Led Retreat 2026 stands as a testament to what can be achieved when former beneficiaries return to guide those following in their footsteps. It is a model of leadership, mentorship, and community that continues to strengthen the Families Without Borders family.

As participants returned to their campuses, they carried with them more than memories. They left with renewed purpose, valuable connections, and the confidence to become leaders who will inspire others in the years ahead.
